Mulled Wine

Sat, 4 December 2021

Mulled Wine
Mulled wine is a beverage of European origins usually made with red wine along with various mulling spices and sometimes raisins.
It is served hot or warm and is alcoholic. It is a traditional drink which is usually consumed during the winter months, especially around Christmas.
Wine Expert David Whelahan from Whelahan Wines is here to show us how it's done.

W' Mulled Wine Ingredients
1/2 bottle fruity, easy drinking red under €10 (Recommended Italian Primitivo)
1/4 bottle of fresh Irish apple juice
Shot & 1/2 of Brandy (Optional)
Zest of orange and the juice of this orange
6 cloves studded in orange slices
2 cinnamon sticks
1/8 vanilla pod (optional)
3 dessert spoons of brown sugar
1 star anise (optional)

Technique
Add all ingredients to pot and let simmer at low heat for 10 mins. Let blend rest for 30 mins, not critical however it lets all the flavours infuse.
Reheat, never boil and serve. Note, do not serve too hot. Enjoy.
