Little oil for the pan

1 onion finely chopped

2 garlic clove large crushed

1 whole chilli

1/2 tsp salt

1 pinch black pepper to taste

1 tsp ground turmeric

1 tsp hot smoked paprika

1 tbs ground coriander

1 tbs ground cumin

1 tsp garam masala

878 g canned chickpeas rinsed drained

880 g canned chopped tomato

1/4 cup washed red lentils

1/4 cup water
