Steak & Gravy Pie

A rich and delicious budget friendly dish, similar to a cottage pie, but with steak pieces. The French call

Ingredients

1.2kg of Lean Diced Beef

1 x rich Beef stock pot

1 x red wine stock pot

1 x Savoury Mince Packet

3-4 tbsp of Gravy Granules

1 Jar Carrots

Mash Potatoes for the topping

40g Cheddar cheese

20g Parmesan Cheese

 

Mirepoix (base for the sauce)

2 sticks of celery diced

1-2 carrots diced

1 onion diced

 

Method:

Add oil Sear the beef to brown and remove from pan

Add in the the celery, carrot and onion and fry off in the juices of the meat until softened

Add back in the beef

Mix the two stock pots with 750mls water and add in to a high sided pan (oven friendly if possible, if not have a casserole dish ready to transfer) )

Simmer on a low to medium heat on the hob for 1.5 hours until the beef is fork tender

Add in n 1 packet of savoury mince packet mixed with 200mls water

 

Add in 1/2 pack of Roast Gravy mixed with 100 mls water

Stir it all together and let it simmer and thicken for an addition 15 mins

Add in a jar of carrots (you can add fresh carrots at the start)

When it’s cooked and beef is tender, top with the mash and the cheddar and parmesan and pop in the oven or transfer to a casserole dish (if your pan is not oven proof) and top with mash potatoes, cheddar and Parmesan

Pop in the oven at 190° for 25-30 mins until cheese has melted and golden and serve
