Warm Autumnal Spiced Apples
220 g granulated sugar (1 cup)
10 g self-raising flour (1 Tablespoon)
5 g cinnamon (1 generous teaspoon)
75 g uncooked oats (3/4 cup)
180 g dark muscovado sugar (3/4 cup packed)
130 g self-raising flour (3/4 cup)
1/4 teaspoon bread soda (less than 1 g)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder (less than 1 g)
4 large Granny Smith Apples (or 8 small)
130 g melted salted butter (about ¼ lb)
Method:
In a large bowl, combine sugar, flour (only the 10 g) & cinnamon and set this mixture aside.
In a medium bowl, mix oats, muscovado sugar, flour (the larger quantity), bread soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
Peel your apples and thinly slice them into the large bowl with the sugar mixture. Combine these all together until the apples are coated. Place in a buttered casserole dish (9” x 13” is the largest you want to use).
Sprinkle oats mixture over the apples until the are covered, then pour your melted butter over the top. If the butter does not quite coat everything, that is okay.
Bake at 160 degree Celsius for 40 minutes. Serve warm, plain, with a dollop of freshly-whipped cream, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
