Cliona O'Connor's Haloumi Sticks with Caramelised Orange Slices
Ingredients
For The Hot Honey
1/2 c. honey
2 tsp. ground cayenne
½ tsp chilli flakes
For The Haloumi Sticks
250g block of Haloumi
75g plain flour
1 egg, beaten
75g breadcrumbs
3 tbsp honey
½ lemon
For The Salad
Baby Salad leaves & rocket
1 orange with skin cut off and sliced
1 tbsp olive oil
Method
1. Make the hot honey: In a small pan bring the honey to a simmer, over a medium heat. Add in cayenne & stir.
2. Cook for about 3 minutes more on a low heat. Remove from heat - leave cool completely.
3. In the same pan add some olive oil and fry the orange slices on a medium heat for 2-3 mins each side - until Caramelised
4. Slice the haloumi into half lengthways. Slice each half into 6.
5. Take one piece of Haloumi & roll into the flour mixture. Then dip into the egg and finally press into the breadcrumbs.Repeat for all haloumi pieces.
6. If Airfrying then, spray the airfryer & the haloumi pieces with some oil. Airfry in preheated airfryer for 8 mins - turning after 4 mins.
7. Alternatively preheat some sunflower oil in a pan. Shallow fry the haloumi in the hot oil for 1 minute on each side.
8. Add the oranges to the salad leaves on a plate alongside the haloumi. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon in the fries. Drizzle with honey.
