Red Rock’s jaw-dropping season finale didn’t disappoint last night as it reached 235,600 viewers and commanded an average share of 14.41%. Viewers were last night (Thursday 4th June) left stunned when Adrijan Kosos, played by Boyko Krastanov, was hit full on by a passing car just as he was in the process of asking a driver to exit his vehicle. This shocking final scene had viewers glued to their sets as the show peaked at 194,700 viewers in the closing minutes.

Twitter was flooded with comments about the heart-stopping cliffhanger, with tweets including; “Literally jaw-dropping end to #RedRock. As billed. My face did exactly the same thing as all the celebrities in the promo video.” - Laura Slattery, “WTF I watch Game of Thrones I shouldn't be shocked by these things!!” – Labhaoise, and some even posting pictures of the fight scene in Rocky with the caption “#RedRock ADDDRRRIIIIAAAANNNNNN”.

The gripping episode saw an average of 183,000 viewers (TV3/TV3+1) tune in to watch Paudge get caught on camera burning his own house down, Angela finally being hit with the horrific reality of her son Conor’s heroin addiction and whether or not Katie will go through with her abortion.

Red Rock is TV3’s biggest and most ambitious commission to date employing up to 130 people full-time in the audio/visual and acting industry. Red Rock continues to prove a massive success for TV3 and has reached over 2.3 Million viewers across TV3, TV3+1 and 3e, since its launch on the 7th January 2015.

The shock scenes were directed by talented Irish Director Rob Burke, who has previously worked on IFTA and BAFTA winning series' The Importance of Being Whatever and ROY. Rob who normally works as a duo alongside his talented Director brother Ronan, directed episodes 21-24 and 41-44 of Red Rock which includes this week’s penultimate episode and season finale, while his brother, Ronan, directed episodes 13-16 and 37-40, which saw Brian McGonigle get caught out at the caravan park and troubled schoolgirl Rachel Reid’s final confession that she was having a sexual relationship with Brian.

Speaking about the season finale viewership figures, a TV3 spokesperson said: “The minute we saw the final cut we knew the season finale was going to be a huge success. The ‘Red Rock’ production team has delivered a superb ending with the final scene really giving viewers a massive shock and a reason to come back to the soap in September. The reactions last night across social media really say it all!”

Earlier this week, Producers of the TV3 soap teased Red Rock fans with a 1 minute 42 second video which showed a host of well-known faces reacting to this Thursday’s finale. Lucy Kennedy, Mark Cagney, Glenda Gilson, Caroline Morahan, Louis Walsh, Sean Bean, Moe Dunford, Deirdre O’Kane, Henry McKean and Ian Dempsey all featured in the video. The reactions varied but the theme was similar: one of utter shock and disbelief.

The next season of the hugely popular soap, which will return to TV3 on Wednesday 2nd September, will have even more twists and turns than the critically acclaimed first season.
