TV3 GROUP RELEASE

IMMEDIATE: Wednesday 2nd July, 2014.

Who will be crowned Ireland’s Best Amateur Baker in ‘The Great Irish Bake Off’ Final?

Blood, sweat and tears have gone into each bake over the last seven episodes and now the final is upon us.

The judges have set finalists Ali, Shane and Tracy a whopper technical challenge of a ‘Tower of Rainbow Macaroons’.

The signature bake is ‘Afternoon Tea’ but it’s not your average tea and scones, it is to consist of eleven elements including sandwiches, scones, pastries and cakes.

The Great Irish Bake Off final will air Thursday 3rd July at 9pm on TV3.

Interviews with judges & contestants available on request.

After eight weeks of blood, sweat and tears, The Great Irish Bake Off final is upon us. Only the best have survived but which baker will pip the others to the post? Will it be Ali who struggled with the judges’ criticism but came on leaps and bounds when she started to take it on board or will risk-taker Shane shade it with his unusual flavours? Could the ever-consistent Tracy impress the judges or has she played it too safe? It’s all down to judges Biddy White Lennon and Paul Kelly who have set the finalist two whopper challenges!

First up is the Technical Challenge of a ‘Tower of Rainbow Macaroons’ which puts fear in the eyes of Tracy and Shane as Ali took home the title of star baker last week after baking delicious  Macaroons with Lemon Curd. Ali, on the other hand, is not convinced she has the advantage.

“I know as well how wrong it can go with macaroons. They’re a little bit ‘moody cookies’. You need to look after them because they can be tricky like this is not my recipe I work with. I do them a little bit differently.”

The final Showstopper Challenge is ‘Afternoon Tea’ but it’s not your average tea and scones, it is to consist of eleven elements including three micro-sandwiches incorporating soda bread and brioche buns, three mini-scones, one of which must be plain, three pastries including a fruit tart and a choux bun, finishing off with two slices of cake – and it all has to be done within the five hour time frame.

Tracy has her eyes on the prize but will her confidence and determination take her over the finishing line?

“I feel kind of strong going into the challenges today because I’ve had two star bakers and three firsts in the technical challenge so I feel confident.

“I’d love to win it. I wouldn’t bother embarking on a journey unless I felt I had the capability to complete the journey and be successful at it.”

Shane is also very confident with his Showstopper for the final and hopes he’s can pull it off on the day.

“I feel really excited about going into the tent for the final time. I wanted to create a showstopper that was inspired by different countries. I really think that if I can pull it off and do it the way I practiced it and the way I have it in my head, I think I can impress Paul and Biddy and hopefully win it.”

With three excellent bakers who have impressed the judges in different ways over the last eight weeks, who will be crowned Ireland’s Best Amateur Baker?

The Great Irish Bake Off Final will air Thursday 3rd July at 9pm on TV3.
