The premiere of Keith Barry: Brain Hacker, TV3’s biggest show to date, reached a total of 526,000 people with an average of 250,200 individuals tuning in from 9pm to 10pm last night (Sunday 12th January). A peak audience of 303,400 tuned in to see the world-renowned mentalist amaze a live studio audience with a number of impressive stunts. The brand new show had a 14.12% individual share and 16.60% adults 15-44 tuned in.
#BrainHacker and #KeithBarry trended on Twitter throughout the night as celebrity fans tweeted about the show, including Niall Horan, Laura Whitmore, Huey Morgan, Dynamo, Ronan Keating, Nicky Byrne, Keith Duffy, Uri Geller and many more.
The high rating first episode looked at ‘intuition’ and Keith investigated whether twins and triplets really have “Twin-tuition” or if it’s just a lucky coincidence. The Crimmins triplets were put to the test in a visualisation experiment where they each imagined elements of Keith’s new tattoo without ever having seen it.
Keith also tested his own intuition by jumping blindy from a height on to one of two paper bags – one was empty and one contained a razor-sharp sai covered in the venom of a highly poisonous gaboon viper snake. Of course this was no problem for Keith, who visualised the empty bag and jumped straight on top of it barefoot – but not before he left the audience on the edge of their seats by hesitating for what seemed like an eternity!
The hour long show also included martial arts weapons expert Keith Flynn, the Grandfather of mentalism David Berglas, Europe’s leading fashion photographer Barry McCall and award-winning tattoo artist Joe Myler.
This brand new series was filmed at home in TV3’s state of the art Sony HD studio, the largest of its kind in Ireland, Keith Barry: Brain Hacker catered for a combined studio audience of over 700 people across its six filmed episodes.
The impressive set, built on 5000 square feet, features four distinct areas which all feature in the hour long show and have their own special purpose; The Lounge (where Keith meets his special guests), The Lab (where Keith performs under test conditions), The Stage (a salute to magic and mentalism shows from the past) and The Bar (where Keith meets members of the audience).
Keith Barry: Brain Hacker is TV3’s largest home-produced show to date and is expected to be an international success. Between pre-production, filming and post production, Keith Barry: Brain Hacker was twelve months in the making, with TV3 executives saying it’s a physical representation of where TV3 is going as a network.
From March 2014, Keith will also be taking Brain Hacker around the country with a new live show, proving that everything you see on TV can be done live! The live tour kicks off on 14th March 2014. See ‘Notes to Editor’ for a full list of dates.
Keith Barry: Brain Hacker continues next Sunday 19th January at 9pm on TV3, focusing on ‘hypnosis’. Is it real or fake and can anyone be hypnotised? Or, is it all just the power of suggestion? In this episode Keith tests the power of hypnosis on body builders, members of the studio audience and on the viewers at home. He also attempts the largest ever televised mass hypnosis.
‘Keith Barry: Brain Hacker’ continues next Sunday 19th January at 9pm on TV3.
‘Keith Barry - Brain Hacker’ will be on tour nationwide from March 12th 2014.
