TV3’s David McWilliams is back with a brand new studio show on Thursday nights at 10pm exploring the big issues facing our society and economy.
In episode two, David asks the question, why are we so broke? How much money do you have left over at the end of every month? Do you feel you’re always broke? Why is everything in Ireland so expensive?
David devises his own Guinness Index of Value and a series of price comparisons between Ireland and Germany on everyday items from public transport to antibiotics. For example, Guinness is made is Ireland but as soon as it leaves our shores it gets cheaper and cheaper, why is this? In Germany, antibiotics are 83% cheaper and tampons are 43% cheaper, why is this?
David explores the reasons why our cost of living is so high and says;
“There is a sense, that everything is ridiculously expensive here. The worst thing is, when you ask for a wage rise here, your told inflation is really low. But how can inflation be really low, when prices are really high?”
The programme will feature contributions from Anton Savage (Communications Clinic), Olivia Buckley (Irish Tax Institute), Camille Loftus (Social Policy Analyst) and Rory Hearne (Maynooth University)as well as a host of other audience members.
You can also look forward to comedy from Oliver Callan as Leo Varadkar and Eric Lalor in this electric new factual entertainment format.
