TV3 GROUP RELEASE

IMMEDIATE: Tuesday 13th January, 2015.

‘Wentworth Prison’ returns to TV3 with explosive second series.

Picking up three months after Bea Smith kills Jacs Holt, which left room for Franky to rise up and become top dog in the women’s prison, we see Bea sedated with medication as she remains in solitary confinement.

But that’s all about to change as Governor Joan Ferguson arrives on the scene determined to restore order at any cost to the inmates and her staff.

‘Wentworth Prison’ series 2 premieres on TV3 on Thursday 15th January at 10pm.

Following the explosive finale of series one, Wentworth Prison is back with a second series on TV3, starting this Thursday at 10pm.

When we last left the prison, Erica Davidson had been sacked, Bea Smith had to be sedated and was given a 12-year sentence for murdering Jacs Holt, and Franky Doyle became Top Dog.

Series 2 picks up three months after Jacs’ death, while Bea has been languishing in solitary confinement, Franky has risen up to become top dog of the women’s prison unopposed by any of her fellow inmates. But the sudden arrival of new Governor Joan Ferguson is about to change all that.

Ferguson’s mandate is to clean up Wentworth and restore order at any cost to the inmates and her staff. Franky’s reign is under threat immediately when Ferguson tries to elevate Bea’s position.

But Bea has other plans as she vows to avenge her daughter’s murder from the inside. Series 2 charts her quest and Bea will be forced to use every ounce of her courage, ingenuity and steely determination.

Ferguson is immediately aware of the lax atmosphere at Wentworth and decides that there is no time to lose in re-establishing control.

“Society has deemed these women defective and it's our job to fix them, not to pander, to befriend, to indulge their conduct,” she tells the staff.

"For three months, these women have had it easy. Today we shut their systems down. We stamp on their opportunities. We destroy their networks. Each and every person here will know their place. This is a prison and we are in charge."

Her first act is a drugs bust in the laundry. When the two women Franky suspects of grassing end up in sick bay, Ferguson decides to put an end to Franky's regime. She has done her homework and has already decided that Bea Smith would make a more acceptable top dog.

But when she realises that Bea is now a shadow of her former self, finding refuge in a haze of prescription medicine, she attempts to get Franky on side in the meantime.

“It's lonely at the top. Dangerous too. Only the best get to stay there. The rest, they end up like Jacqueline Holt. Co-operate with me and I'll ensure that you stay where you belong,” she tells Franky.

Their deal seems to be working out until Boomer puts a film of a prison fight online and Franky gets the blame.

Ferguson decides to step up her game by stopping Bea's sedatives and returning her to the H Block. She also arranges for Franky's lover to be transferred to the D Block and tells Will Jackson that his drink and drugs support group for the prisoners must terminate.

Bea's return forces Franky into a show of strength as Bea is popular and Franky knows it. However, she quietly apologises to Bea afterwards and gets her some more sedatives but Lizzie arrives just in the nick of time to stop her from swallowing the lot.

That night she takes one last pill, says goodbye to Debbie and finds her reason to – revenge.

‘Wentworth Prison’ series 2 starts on TV3 this Thursday at 10pm.
