‘Renovation Nation’ kicks off on TV3

transforming orchard for Daughters of Charity.

 

Presented by Laura Woods, ‘Renovation Nation’ is the show that gives a helping hand to charitable organisations and local groups across the country.

 

Episode 1 sees the ‘Renovation Nation’ team, with the help of ‘Difference Days’, travel to Limerick to transform an old orchard into a garden of relaxation and stimulation for The Daughters of Charity Disability Services.

 

‘Renovation Nation’ Episode 1 airs Monday 5th January at 8pm on TV3.

Presented by Laura Woods, Renovation Nation is the show that gives a helping hand to charitable organisations and local groups across the country by refitting, revamping and reviving their much loved spaces, and they do it all in just one day.

 

In the first episode of this four part series, an old orchard within the grounds of The Daughters of Charity Disability Services in Limerick is the first target for renovation. Our team of renovation professionals will oversee 300 volunteers as they work on 16 tailor made projects to transform the bare and uninspiring space into a garden of relaxation and stimulation for the 400 service users. Complete with wheelchair accessible pathways, amble wooden seating areas and a gigantic 67m long sensory walk way.

 

Speaking about what the renovation will mean to the service users at Daughters of Charity Limerick, Service Manager Breda Noonan said:

 

“Many of the service users here at Lisnagry would have sensory impairment, be it visual or hearing or indeed mobility, whatever, so this particular space I suppose will bring an appreciation to them where they can smell, taste, touch what prior to this, we don’t have here on campus at Lisnagry.”

 

Concerned about the cloudy, dark skies on renovation day, Laura asked ‘Difference Days’Managing Director, Denis O’Reilly, what happens if it rains, to which he replied:

 

“I have ponchos. The weather doesn’t stop. If it lashes rain, the spirit of people –  when they meet the men and women from the Daughters of Charity Services, which they will at the coffee break at the beginning of the day, you know I’d run through rain for them so I’m sure Fidelity [the company volunteering] will do the same.”
