TV3 GROUP RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday 24thNovember, 2014.

TV3 and CMRF, launch ‘#Kiss4Crumlin’ campaign.

TV3 presenter Colette Fitzpatrick launched the fundraising initiative with her son Milo and daughter Olivia.

‘#Kiss4Crumlin’ asks people to take a video or picture of themselves kissing someone or something close to their heart and post to social media.

To support the ‘#Kiss4Crumlin’ campaign, TV3 and the CMRF conducted a survey revealing some interesting results.

Of the 500 people who took part, an impressive 43% said they would most like to kiss Leo Varadkar with Deputy Leader of Sinn Fein Mary Lou McDonald coming a close second with 20%. 86% of Irish people would prefer to kiss Bryan Dobson over Vincent Browne.

“Pucker up!” and donate to #Kiss4Crumlin by posting your kiss and texting ‘KISS’ to 50300.

TV3 and its official charity, The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation (CMRF), today launched the ‘#Kiss4Crumlin’ campaign, to raise awareness and some much needed funds for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

The fundraising initiative was ‘kissed off’ with TV3 news presenter Colette Fitzpatrick accompanied by the two closest people to her heart, her 4-year-old son Milo and 2-year-old daughter Olivia.

‘#Kiss4Crumlin’ will primarily run as a social media campaign where people will take a video or picture of themselves kissing someone or something close to their heart and post it on social media. To maximise awareness and reach people on a national scale, part of the campaign is to put forward at least three other people, encouraging them to “pucker up!” and to donate to #Kiss4Crumlin by texting ‘KISS’ to 50300. Each text will automatically donate €2 to The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation (CMRF).

The CMRF plays a key role in supporting the funding of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin to deliver state of the art facilities, equipment, infrastructure, accommodation for families, and other special requirements and needs for some of Ireland’s sickest children.

The campaign will be supported across a number of flagship TV3 programmes, including Ireland AM, Xposé, Midday and Late Lunch Live with presenters such as Karen Koster, Anna Daly, Lucy Kennedy and Vincent Browne all taking part and sending their ‘Kiss for Crumlin.’ A number of other well-known faces have also got involved in the great cause, including Paul Potts, Jedward, Brian McFadden, Peter Coonan, Keith Duffy, Kevin Kilbane, Sharon Corr, a selection of GAA players, PJ Gallagher and Eric Lalor.

To support the ‘#Kiss4Crumlin’ campaign, TV3 and the CMRF conducted a survey revealing some interesting results. The survey asked 500 people in Ireland a series of questions about their kissing habits. Some of the questions asked were; “Who did you last kiss?” to which 23% answered “My Husband” but only 14% answered “My Wife!” “My Girlfriend” was the lowest with only 8% of people choosing this option. Another question was “What body part do you most like to kiss?” to which 79% said an obvious “lips” – a clear favourite amongst us Irish! When asked ”From the below list, which Irish politician would you most like to kiss?”, an impressive 43% said they would most like to kiss Leo Varadkar and Mary Lou McDonald came in a close second with 20% choosing her. When asked to choose between Vincent Browne and Bryan Dobson, 86% of people said they’d prefer to kiss Bryan.

The CMRF was recently shortlisted and selected by TV3 as its official charity due to its valuable work as the principal fundraising body for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and the National Children’s Research Centre, and its dedication to working to improve the quality of life of sick children throughout Ireland.

The current €2million shortfall in its fundraising target is a concern to the CMRF who need these funds to support Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and The National Children’s Research Centre.

Commenting on the launch of TV3’s ‘#Kiss4Crumlin’ campaign, Colette Fitzpatrick said: “It was a no brainer for us. In the run up to Christmas we wanted to run an initiative which made people feel warm inside. One which people would find fun and enjoyable to participate in and give them a worthy excuse to pucker up for the ones they love, while also doing a good deed in the run up to Christmas.”

Speaking about the fundraising initiative, Edel O’Malley, Director of Development at the CMRF said: “#Kiss4Crumlin is a wonderfully creative initiative and we at the CMRF are really excited about the campaign. The need for donations to sustain and improve the exceptional level of care at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin is greater than ever and #Kiss4Crumlin will drive this as we move towards the Christmas period.”

About TV3

Launched in 1998, TV3 is the largest commercial channel in Ireland with an 11% market share for Adults 15+. The channel reaches over 2.6 million individuals each week and over 3.4 million individuals each month. TV3 has a bigger market share for Adults 15+ than BBC1, UTV, Channel 4 and Sky 1 combined.

TV3 Group remains Ireland’s only free-to-air national commercial broadcast company, a status which allows them to represent and provide for viewers independently and without vested interests. The network continues to differentiate itself through an emphasis on Irish and home produced programming, and in 2015 TV3 estimates that more than 50% of its current schedule will be produced in Ireland. The development of the brand new Sony HD Studio has allowed for the production of bigger formats and even better content for distribution – giving scope for greater impact in the international market.

Today, TV3 Group has firmly established itself as the leader in TV entertainment in Ireland. While TV3 strikes the perfect balance between light hearted fun, home-grown daytime viewing and authentic original programming, its sister channel 3e, which was re-branded in 2009, targets a slightly younger audience. The station’s Adults 15-34 share is bigger than UTV, BBC2 and E4.
