TV3 GROUP RELEASE

IMMEDIATE:  Wednesday, 11th February 2009

New TV3 documentary series reveals the shocking

levels of crime and violence on Ireland's streets

Lawless Ireland is a new five part series which starts at 9pm on Monday, 16th February on TV3

The programme exposes the growing problems of late-night drunken street violence, blood sports, armed robberies, kidnappings, racist attacks and football hooliganism.

With Ireland's economic boom well and truly over, experts predict that crime is set to rise.

There is a marked increase in criminal behaviour and vicious activities and Lawless Ireland, a brand new documentary from TV3, has gathered dramatic footage of violent street fights, bare-knuckle boxing and dog fighting as well as disturbing CCTV footage of armed robberies and break-ins.

The series, presented by Brian O'Donovan, examines the depraved behaviour that affects every person living in Ireland and investigates how the level of public order offences and alcohol-related emergency room admissions is higher than ever before.

Lawless Ireland also explores how violence and robberies will increase as a result of the recession and it takes a look at the ferocious gangland feuds in Limerick and Dublin, the growing problem of racist attacks, the rise of football hooliganism among Irish soccer fans and the escalation of teenage anti-social behaviour.

Writer and presenter, Brian O'Donovan said: "We witnessed Ireland's growing crime problem first hand during the making of Lawless Ireland.  Whether it's late night drunken street violence, dog fighting or football hooliganism we got up close and personal with some of the most dangerous aspects of Irish society."

Executive Producer, Fintan Maguire said: "TV3 continues to deliver hard hitting documentaries that highlight the stories that other broadcasters ignore. As a continued commitment to Irish programmes, that matter to our audience, we follow Dirty Money and Living With Murder with our latest documentary series focusing on Irish crime and reveal the shocking reality of modern Ireland."

Lawless Ireland starts on TV3 on Monday, 16th February at 9pm

Ends.
