A season of movie greats on 3e begins on Saturday 5th June at 10pm

Presented by movie nut Ross McDonagh, 3e Movie Club will feature some of our favourite ever films over a 12 week period

Starts Saturday June 5th with First Blood starring Sylvester Stallone

3e introduces 3e Movie Club, which will commence on June 5th and will feature a series of great movies specially chosen for our viewers every Saturday night during the summer months. 3e Movie Club will be presented straight from the sofa in a personal style by Ross McDonagh, a well known movie reviewer on Spin103.8 and Phantom 105.2 and co-host of the hugely popular rossvross.com movie review website. Ross also writes for the Metro Herald and occasionally contributes to Ireland’s adventure magazine, Outsider.

3e Movie Club will bring together an eclectic mix of our favourite movies from the seventies to the noughties, starring some of the biggest names in Hollywood such as Robert De Niro, Robert Downey Jr and Mickey Rourke. The movies will be introduced in a unique and irreverent style by Ross, who will share his thoughts and views on why each of these movies is an absolute must-see.

TV3’s Director of Programming, Ben Frow said: ‘’3e is the fastest growing digital channel of all and 3e Movie Club is another show that we are confident will appeal to our young, discerning audience. All the movies for 3e Movie Club have been carefully selected with the aim of giving our viewers an opportunity to watch some brilliant films, whether it’s for the first or fifth time, and to provide a great summer alternative to their usual TV viewing’’.

Movies of the 3e Movie Club

First Blood (1982)
Also known as Rambo, Sylvester Stallone stars in this 1980’s action thriller which was chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 500 greatest movies of all time.

Pitch Black (2000)
Van Diesel stars in the story of a group of marooned space travellers who struggle for survival on a seemingly lifeless sun-scorched world.

Carlito’s Way (1993)
A Puerto-Rican ex-con who has just been released from prison pledges to stay away from drugs and violence -despite the pressure around him- and lead a better life outside of NYC. Starring Al Pacino, Carlito’s Way was nominated for two Golden Globes.

Papillon (1973)
Starring Dustin Hoffman. Two prisoners strike up a friendship as they begin serving their sentences on an isolated, while one of them plots an escape.

Angel Heart (1987)
Robert de Niro plays investigator Harry Angel, who is on a new case to find someone who doesn’t want to be found. A crazy journey into the deep south of America.

When We Were Kings (1996)
Oscar winning documentary based on the 1974 heavyweight championship match in Zaire between champion George Foreman and underdog challenger Muhammad Ali.

Clockers (1995)
When a night watchman at a fast-food restaurant is found with four bullets in his body, the older brother of young city drug pusher, Strike turns himself in as the killer.

The Fog (1980)
Based in Northern California, where a 100 year old fishing town that was built over an old leper colony falls foul of a killer fog which hides zombie-like ghosts seek revenge for their deaths.

Bob Roberts (1992)
Tim Robbins stars as a corrupt right-wing folk singer running a crooked election campaign while only one independent muck-raking reporter is trying to stop him.

Chaplin (1992)
A film about the troubled and controversial life of the master comedy film-maker, Chaplin was nominated for three Oscars and stars Robert Downey Jr.

The Hitcher (1986)
A young man who escaped the clutches of a murderous hitch-hiker is subsequently stalked, framed for the hitcher's crimes, and has his life made hell by the same man he escaped.

Mean Streets (1973)
Oscar winner Robert de Niro stars in the story of a small-time hood who struggles to succeed on the "mean streets" of Little Italy in New York.
