The White Shirt Project2nd Mar 17 | Xpose Magazine
It’s the wardrobe staple that never goes out of fashion, XPOSÉ Magazine hold the secret to nailing the classic white shirt!
Team XPOSÉ are on a lifelong quest to build the ultimate capsule wardrobe, and while many of the obligatory items are invested in and securely hung in our wardrobes, the perfect classic white shirt is the ultimate prize and so far, it has evaded every single one of us. Enter the team at Karen Millen with their White Shirt Project, it’s as if they read our (fashion-forward, yet fickle) minds. It’s a little known fact that Karen Millen first began when the eponymous founder invested £100 in 1,000 metres of cotton to create crisp and sophisticated shirts to sell to her friends. To celebrate the timeless appeal of the closet classic that started it all, the iconic brand have created a capsule collection of white shirts re-imagined and hand-crafted in their London atelier.
The humble white shirt is huge news for spring/summer with everyone from Carolina Herrera to Dior using the key piece as a base point for adventurous, high fashion looks. While a white shirt may seem like a basic addition to any wardrobe, as always, it’s all in the styling. The staple had been updated, deconstructed and completely turned on its head as of late with designers, celebs and influencers becoming more and more daring in the styling of white shirts.
Gone are the days of a shirt tucked into black trousers. In their place, shirts are being worn backwards, with cut-out shoulders, ruffles and a whole host of interesting details that’ll make them the focus of an ensemble as opposed to a practical after thought.
With volume, statement sleeves, pleats and pussybows, the White Shirt Project ticks almost every trend-driven box for the season ahead. Play with proportions, layer over and under dresses and accessorize until your arms can take no more to create your signature look.
The team at Karen Millen have teamed up with three international fashion authorities to showcase the new collection including Parisian blogger, Camille Charriere, London-based presenter and chef Laura Jackson and New York fashion and lifestyle writer Jeanne Grey. But it’s not just fans in London, Paris and New York who’ll benefit from this white shirt revival.
To celebrate the launch, Karen Millen will host a series of workshops across the world and our lovely XPOSÉ readers are invited. Our very own Fashion Editor, Claudia Gocoul will take the stage at Karen Millen, Dundrum at 6pm on 7 March to solve your styling problems and we’d love to see you there...
