As we’re drooling over the new rose gold iPhone, and decorating our homes with the latest trend in copper home accents, this season we’re opting for the more feminine rose gold option for all of our jewellery needs.
Rose gold is the perfect fashion investment, as it will work perfectly with everything you already have. You can mix it up with other metals, wearing rings or bracelets stacked with white or yellow gold, or keep just to rose gold for a soft and flattering accessory look.
Rose gold, also known as Russian gold, as it was popular in Russia at the beginning of the nineteenth century, is actually a mix of gold and copper. The higher the copper content the stronger the pinky rose colour. Before its recent fashion comeback, rose gold reached the height of its popularity in the Victorian era, from around 1830 to 1901, as the colour pink was considered the colour of romance.
It became popular again in the 1920s when Cartier jewellers debuted the famous Trinity ring, made of three interlocking bands, one each of yellow, white and rose gold. Celebs have gone crazy for the rose gold trend this time around, with Jay-Z sporting a pink gold Jaeger Le-Couture watch to the Grammy’s this year.
Blake Lively has got a rose gold engagement ring, and rapper Tyga even has a rose gold Mercedes!
Get on board with the rose gold trend with our selection of some of our favourite pieces…
We love Irish brand Knight & Day’s take on the iconic Trilogy ring, with this stacking ring set featuring white gold, yellow gold and rose gold pieces. Wearing all three together means you can mix up your metals and tie your whole accessory look together.

In case you weren’t sure, this rose gold locket, €84.95 from Knight and Day, even has a pretty rose symbol in the centre. It looks great layered up with other necklaces of different lengths, as seen in the main picture, or left to shine on its own.
Rose gold locket, €84.95, Knight and Day, as before.
While rose gold is definitely romantic and elegant it looks brilliant when worn with androgynous styling – think brogues, peg leg trousers, a mannish white shirt and a big chunky rose gold watch.
