Fact: Clontarf Castle has a history of romance that dates back to 1742 and a certain Handel, composer of the famous Messiah was a regular visitor to the castle and courted the then lady of the house Dorothy (Dolly) Vernon with whom he was particularly intimate, it is said that the neighbouring area of Dollymount was named after this lady.
