The former Celebrity Big Brother contestant has ramped up the excitement with the suggestion that we might be about to see some familiar faces return to the house.

With the sixteenth series of Big Brother coming to our screens next week, Rylan Clark has ramped up the excitement with the suggestion that we might be about to see some familiar faces return to the house.

The theme of the new series is 'Timebomb', and Rylan says it could lead to Big Brother messing with the contestants concept of time.

The former Celebrity Big Brother contestant and host of Big Brother's Bit on the Side was appearing on Ireland AM this morning said: "This series we're stripping back. We could go back in time - they (the contestants) might wake up one morning and I'll be in there!"

The ‘Timebomb’ theme will see a Mad Men-influenced, '60s-style decor for the new house as part of an upbeat, glamorous, thrilling and mischievous series. Big Brother is set to play with time during tasks and have secret missions to create tension in the house.

Rylan said: "As an ex-contestant myself, I know that the only element of real life in that house is: you wake up, it's sunlight. You go to bed, it's dark. You only have an idea of what time it is don’t even know what the time is because there’s no clocks."

Watch: Rylan Clark on Ireland AM telling us what we can expect from the upcoming series

"This year we can go back in time so we might see some old housemates or we might even fast forward a year and meet some housemates from next year."

And while he wouldn't be moved on which Big Brother favourites might re-enter the house, Rylan did suggest there may be some extra Irish interest this year.

"We've got young, we've got old, we've got England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales - we've got them all."

TV3 is the home of ‘Big Brother’ this summer broadcasting over 200 hours of the hugely popular fly on the wall reality series, including spin-off show ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’, across TV3, 3e and 3Player.

The launch show: ‘Big Brother: Timebomb’ kicks off on Tuesday 12th May at 9pm on 3e, with a simulcast on TV3 from 10pm – 11pm.

‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ will air nightly on 3e straight after the main show.
