Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses following a single vehicle collision in Co. Westmeath last night. A man tragically died and a teenage girl is seriously injured following the incident.
The car they were travelling in hit a ditch and ended up in a field around 2.5km outside Castlepollard, Co Westmeath.
The collision reportedly happened sometime between 10pm and 11.20pm. A 27-year-old man was fatally injured and pronounced dead at Mullingar Regional Hospital, while an 18-year-old girl was seriously injured and taken to the same hospital.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination. Local diversions are in place.
