A scorching heatwave is approaching Ireland - but we're due a belt of rain first.

Thought last month's temperatures were good? It's about to get A LOT hotter.

The national forecaster are predicting that a possible 'heat wave' is on the way next week as temperatures continue to soar to the late twenties.

However, there's some bad weather first with a rather dull, damp and breezy start to today but it will become dry with sunny spells for most. In the northwest of the country there'll be light passing showers. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, the higher values in the southeast, coolest along northern coasts. Northwest breezes will be moderate, occasionally fresh in strength.

The weekend is set to be dry, calm and sunny, with temperatures set to hit up to 25C in places, with the midlands and south set for the warmest conditions. However, next week looks set to top even that, with possible 'heat wave' conditions setting in.
