People with the conditions should take extra caution

Health experts are warning people with asthma and hay fever to take to take caution as pollen levels begin to rise.

With the warmer weather comes increased pollen levels, which can result in making hay fever and asthma sufferers’ symptoms considerably worse.

As spring was delayed with the exceptionally cold winter, there are fears that more plants and trees will release their pollen at the same time creating a pollen explosion.

Airborne allergens expert and creator of HayMax, Max Wiseberg told The Sun:“When the tree pollen season is delayed, more trees are likely to release their pollen at the same time, creating a time bomb waiting to explode.”

Sonia Munde who is a nurse manager at Asthma UK told The Sun: "Pollen is a top trigger for asthma attacks at this time of the year.”

"People with asthma who also have a pollen allergy not only experience classic hay fever symptoms such as itchy eyes and a running nose, but are also at an increased risk of a life-threatening asthma attack."

Holly Shaw who is a nurse advisor at Allergy UK added: "The warmer weather can signal the start of allergic symptoms for people with hay fever.”

“Pollen avoidance can be challenging due to the many different types of pollens from grasses, trees and weeds being released at different times of the year."

Both experts recommend people who are affected by the high pollen levels to take antihistamines and nasal steroid sprays.

They also ask people to keep their preventer inhalers with them at all times to avoid attacks.
