Many brides have been left out of pocket and without dresses due to the closure

Up to 200 brides have been left without dresses for their big day as Wedding World in Marino Dublin suddenly closed at the weekend.

Dessy, a large bridal design house who have supplied dresses to Wedding World in the past, claimed they found out on Thursday that the company was going to cease trading but had no idea before that.

Due to the sudden closure, up to 200 women are without dresses for their big day as well as being out of pocket having paid a 50% deposit for the gowns.

Wedding World have no direct point of contact for customers and instead, people were directed to contact Dessy, who set up a Facebook page to try and help people who have ordered Dessy dresses from the company.

Michelle, a representative from Dessy told RTE Radio One’s Liveline: "Dessy themselves are owed a lot of money going back over the last year, there are 130 girls whose orders, some of which we have got who have paid Wedding World that we haven't been paid for. We've filled as many calls as we can in order, the brides in April, May and so on - we are the only supplier to the shop."

"We think we know of around 130 girls in our system, we were told by Wedding World that there may be up to 200 girls. That means there are women who have placed orders who Wedding World have never ordered the dresses from us.”

"We don't really know the size of it, we only know what we have got as orders. There could be more of them, we don't know. We'd like wedding world to do the right thing but Wedding World are refusing to speak to us.”
