It has been announced that the man who inspired 2014's Ice Bucket Challenge social media charity craze succumbed to ALS (also known as Motor Neuron Disease) on Saturday. Anthony Senerchia Jr. passed away aged 46 after battling the disease for 14 years.

His obitutary describes him as "a fireball who tried everything in life. He was family oriented, generous and always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a great husband, a proud father, a loving son and a great brother. He will be missed by everyone who knew him."

The challenge took social media by storm with celebrities, politicians and people from all walks of life pouring ice cold water over themselves before challenging friends to do the same while also donating money to help research into the condition.

Some $115 was donated during the eight weeks the challenge was taking place.
