The New York Bucket List ? 5 Things to do in the Big Apple in 2019

19th Feb 19 | Lifestyle

If you're taking a bite out of the Big Apple, we've rounded up the must-sees!

The American Breakfast, need I say more? Get your day off to a good start by digging into stacks of pancakes, excellent eggs or a classic bagel. You’ll get a hit of Broadway and breakfast in Ellen’s Stardust Diner in Time Square, or for a little more sedate but equally delicious fare try Norma’s at the Parker Meridian.

A trip to New York just wouldn’t be complete without heading to Broadway, or just off it. Even if jazz hands and sequins aren’t your thing, you’ll find something well worth a look. As an added bonus, the lesser known productions can be a lot more budget-friendly.

Take a tour

The best way to get to know a city is on foot, even better if someone is showing you around, so you can take your head out of Google Maps! New York is a constant blockbuster backdrop - walking movie and TV tours will take you past the highlights.  My favourite city tip is to do a food tour. Look for a tour that covers the area you’re staying in, and it can give you great ideas for where to grab a bite a little more off the beaten track.

Top of the Rock

While you can channel your inner Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle at the top of the Empire State Building, my vote for the tall-building-viewpoint goes to the Rockefeller Centre. Around Christmas it has the huge tree famous from Elf and Home Alone 2, but the vista from the top is spectacular all year round with the whole of Central Park stretching out in front of you.

The Shopping

For the hardcore shoppers, there are a couple of outlets easily accessible from the city - Jersey Gardens and Woodbury Common. If a full-on day of shopping seems a bit too much, skip the outlets. You can get excellent value in the city itself, which has all the big-name brands and great sales.
