Ryan Reynolds to David Beckham: 6 celebs who have their own booze brands17th Jan 19 | Lifestyle
Expand your drinks repertoire with these A-list tipples, says Sam Wylie-Harris.
For those who want to drink with the stars, the easiest way to do as celebrities do is to buy into their drinks brand.
Joint ventures between the rich and famous and winemakers and distilleries is big business, and for the millions of fans who want a share of their liquid assets, it’s simply a matter of buying a bottle.
Here are six big names involved in the world of booze…
1. Ryan Reynolds: Aviation American Gin
Stylish and with a nod to art deco in its bottle design, Aviation Gin, says owner Ryan Reynolds, is “hands down, the best damn gin on the planet.”
Unlike London Dry, this New Western style of American gin has a far less strict approach to the dominance of juniper in the botanicals. Here, it’s allowed to take a back seat, with cardamom, lavender, lime and coriander calling the shots. Soft and smooth with a floral lift, fresh bursts of citrus add an unexpected twist.
2. George Clooney: Casamigos Tequila
George Clooney sold the tequila company he founded, Casamigos – a joint partnership with businessman Rande Gerber – for a reported $1 billion in 2017, but we can still head down Mexico way and call the shots with their ‘best-tasting, smoothest tequila,’ along with the latest addition to the collection: Casamigos Mezcal (£60.95, 70cl, The Whisky Exchange).
Its’s pricey, but sales of this ‘earthy, fruity, rich mezcal’ have been going through the roof, and it’s proving such a favourite on the cocktail circuit, the stuff’s currently sold out – but will be back in mid-February.
3. David Beckham: Haig Club
Since the football star and entrepreneur teamed up with Haig Club, this iconic Scottish whisky with its striking blue bottle design has gone from strength to strength. Haig Club Clubman (the latest addition) has enough substance to be mixed in long drinks – a single grain Scotch, it’s aged in ex-American bourbon barrels to create a base of sweet toffee notes topped with butterscotch – or poured straight over ice.
4. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Miraval Rosé
The acting pair may be divorced, but they still own a vineyard together, with the estate spanning the Côteaux Varois-en-Provence and Côtes de Provence appellations (regions) – and their first 6,000 bottles of Miraval Rosé 2012 sold out in five hours.
Luckily, Majestic have just taken delivery of the latest vintage, Miraval Rosé 2017, Provence, France (£19.99, Majestic).
5. Jay-Z: Armand de Brignac
You can drink in glitz and glamour with rapper Jay-Z’s ‘Ace of Spades’ champagne. A new collectors edition gift set, featuring Armand de Brignac Brut Gold and Armand de Brignac Brut Rosé (for a whopping £850, 2 x 75cl, Champagne Direct) presented in a sleek black laquered wooden case, is now available for those with money to splurge.
6. Sting: Tenuta Il Palagio
Sting and his wife Trudie Styler’s winemaking dream became a reality among the olive groves and rolling hills of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. At the moment they produce three wines named after the famous singer’s biggest hits: Message In A Bottle – a light, quaffable white; the lip-smacking Message In A Bottle red blend; and When We Dance, a Chianti DOCG that’s un-oaked and made predominantly from sangiovese grapes in a bright and fruity style that’s been praised by the critics. Bellisimo!
