How to tick bucket list travel off your list! Location: New York

14th Feb 19 | Entertainment News

So, you’ve got the travel bug and your destination bucket list is longer than your grocery list with New York perched firmly on top.

Getting there is the first hurdle, but you don’t want to compromise on quality, this is bucket list travel after all! Norwegian Airlines has been named the world’s best low cost long haul airline since 2015, fly to New York from Shannon as well as daily from Dublin. Flexibility with dates of travel can bag you huge savings with both your airfare and accommodation, usually the most expensive parts of any long haul trip.  Norwegian Airlines have a handy low fare calendar to help you spot the best value dates to fly.

As a first time visitor to New York try and position yourself in the best neighbourhoods to experience NYC’s museums, restaurants and shopping. With their central locations and Irish hospitality The Fitzpatrick Hotel Group has some great choices. The Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel is close by the Rockefeller Center, Central Park and MoMA. While The Fitzpatrick Grand Central is located in central Manhattan, directly opposite the Grand Central Terminal and close to Times Square.

Once you get there you’ll have no trouble filling your days, but it is worth planning ahead.  If you’re the kind of person who can’t imagine a trip to NYC without seeing the big-ticket items, it might be worth looking into the New York Pass.  This gets you into a huge range of attractions across the city and can work out to be fantastic value, even better on passes that cover several days.  It’s worth having a plan of what you want to see ahead of time, don’t forget to think about how long it’ll take you to travel between locations.

New York is ideal to explore on foot so make sure you have comfy shoes.  A great way to see the city, for free is to link with a Big Apple Greeter - these are local New Yorkers who volunteer to act as a personal guide for small groups of tourists.  You do need to give a bit of notice though as availability books up fast.

See the New York Skyline by walking along the Brooklyn Bridge or hop on the free Staten Island ferry where you’ll even get to wave to Lady Liberty as you pass her by.
