Things are going to take a very dark turn for this Corrie character

Coronation Street is planning to explore heroin addiction through a new storyline for Bill Mayhew.

Billy hasn’t had it easy of late, with his partner disappearing with Summer, Peter Barlow discovering he had a part to play in his twin sisters death and if that wasn’t enough he had a devastating fall off a cliff.

Although he’s now home recovering, Billy has become increasingly dependent on prescription painkillers which are being supplied by a scheming Adam Barlow.

With his addiction starting to take over, Billy is seen stealing painkillers from Izzy's bag in tonight's episode.

But things are set to get worse for the former vicar.

Adam tells Billy he needs to stop taking them but according to the Daily Star, when Billy becomes desperate for relief he turns to heroin.

Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy, has been spotted filming with Richard Crehan who plays his brother Lee.

When Lee last appeared in the soap it was revealed that he was a heroin addict.

According to the Daily Star, Summer and Amy are set to go to a homeless shelter looking for Billy with Peter Barlow coming to their rescue when they are approached by a stranger.

With darker times ahead for Billy, will he lose Summer for good?

Coronation Street continues on TV3 tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm and you can catch up on 3Player now.
