They’ve quit the show after appearing on just one episode

It only returned to our screens last Sunday, but one star has decided to leave Dancing on Ice already.

Horse racing commentator Matt Chapman, who started as this year’s voiceover on Dancing on Ice won’t be returning to the show this weekend.

Chapman confirmed the news on Thursday saying he was hanging up his skates, leaving the rink and returning “to the turf”.

He took over the voiceover reigns from the late Tony Gubba but Chapman told show bosses on Sunday night to find someone else for the job as he wouldn’t be returning.

A Dancing on Ice source told the Sun: “Matt decided he couldn’t make his diary work as he thought.”

“He’s a big character and a talented sports commentator but he had some mixed reviews in the first show, and he told ITV that perhaps it wasn’t for him after all.”

“It was always going to be a big gig following Tony who did eight series before he died in 2013. After Sunday’s show Matt told producers they would have to look elsewhere for a commentator for the rest of the series.”

ITV also confirmed Matt’s departure from the show in a brief statement on Thursday evening: “We can confirm that Matt Chapman has left the show, and wish him all the very best and look forward to him reporting at ITV Racing at Warwick this weekend.”

Matt’s replacement has yet to be confirmed.

Dancing on Ice returns to TV3 on Sunday at 6pm or you can catch up on last week’s episode on 3Player now!
