Neurological speech disorder: Verbal Dyspraxia

Language is what makes us uniquely human, and for the majority of us, it's difficult to imagine speaking and expressing yourself on a day-to-day basis, and simply not being understood.

But our guest knows only too well the frustration that comes with a communication disorder. Evelyn Byrne's five year old son Charlie can't say his own name, and has only recently learned to say 'Dad' and 'Kokie', his version of calling his sister Sophie. That's because Charlie has Verbal Dyspraxia, a rare neurological speech disorder that makes speaking difficult, or in some cases, nearly impossible.

Evelyn joined us in studio this morning alongside Senior Speech and Language Therapist Vickie Kirkpatrick.
