Christmas Family Feuds

Christmas Family Feuds

Christmas is a time for giving and receiving … abuse!

Reverting back to childhood dynamics is common when threatened with family drama and the amygdala (in our brain) primes us to fight or flight when we feel danger.

When we feel upset or distressed, we normally react automatically, without thinking about the consequences. And we can often get into the habit of using unhelpful and often self-destructive behaviours to help us cope e.g drinking wine and telling off your sister in law!

SO in a way you can blame it on your brain. In terms of family-get-togethers we all have our baggage…we all bring our history…We all have hopes, agendas and built up expectations so along with the cooking, it can be a recipe for disaster.
