In the midst of hard times, thousands of Irish people are doing amazing things and making differences that really matter. They help friends and strangers, reduce pain and suffering, boost good times, heal bad times and simply make Ireland a better place to live. Every street and shop, every community and group will know people who deserve recognition for their actions. The Pride of Ireland Awards, which will be held for the very first time in Ireland, will recognise and reward these ordinary people who make an extraordinary difference to people’s lives.
Hosted by Saturday’s singer and Tipperary woman Una Foden, this prestigious ceremony will celebrate heroes who have shown bravery, great kindness or tenacity, they will have raised funds or saved lives, they will have helped the underdog or stood up to be counted when no one else would. And their actions will have improved the lives they have touched.
A team of researchers carefully considered every nomination and then a national panel of distinguished judges, who included music mogul Louis Walsh, Una Foden, MMA champ Conor McGregor and Philomena Lee, the subject of the recent BAFTA and Oscar nominated movie ‘Philomena’ were faced with the tough task of selecting the deserving winners from the shortlist. In turn, they all quickly realised that this country is full of ordinary folk doing the extraordinary, of whom we should be very proud.
These celebratory awards, hosted in Dublin’s Mansion House, is going to be the biggest A-lister event that has ever crossed our shores with Taoiseach Enda Kenny, as guest of honour along with many UK and Irish celebrities from the worlds of music, sport, TV and entertainment.
The Pride of Ireland Awards airs Thursday 5th June at 9pm on TV3.
