Roasted Beetroot Hummus 

Ingredients 

Chickpeas 

Chickpeas contain carbohydrates, protein, and calcium, and 7 of the 25 to 35 g recommended daily fibre intake.  There is no fat content, only polyunsaturated fats. 

Garlic 

Garlic is good for lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels 

Beetroot 

Beetroot is packed with nutrition; it contains antioxidants and has lower blood pressure properties. 

 

Recipe 

Hummus is a versatile recipe. It is naturally plant-based, gluten-free, and nut-free. 

Just pay attention because it contains Seasame, one of the 14 allergens. 

 

Serve it with:  

  1. Toasted Pita bread. 
  1. Raw vegetables 
  1. Sandwiches or wraps, burgers. 
  1. Halumi salad

Recipe for 6 people 

Ingredients 

Quantity 

Small roasted beetroot 

1 

Cooked chickpeas 

1 tin (400 g; 240g drained) 

Lemon zest 

1 large 

Lemon juice  

½ lemon 

Garlic clove 

1 minced 

Tahini (contains sesame) 

2 Tbsp (30 g) 

Black pepper & Salt 

To taste 

Extra virgin Oil 

¼ cup (60 ml) 

Paprika 

To decorate 

 

Method of Work 

Roasting beetroot: 

  • Place beetroot onto a tin foil, drizzle with oil and wrap tightly. 
  • Bake for one hour at 190? C until a knife inserted falls out without resistance. 
  • Let it cool; wear gloves, peel and chop them. 
  • Beetroot can be blended into a fine paste in a food processor. 

Hummus: 

  • Drain and rinse cooked chickpeas. The water (aquafaba) could be preserved to make foam for porn star Martini. 
  • Place all the ingredients into a food processor and blend into a fine paste. 
  • Add olive oil while mixing. 
  • Preserve refrigerated for up to a week 

Alternative 

Plain hummus can be flavoured with: 

  1. Pest sauce 
  1. Guacamole 
  1. Sundried tomatoes 
  1. Curry paste 
  1. Roasted sweet potatoes 
  1. Chimichurri
