RECIPE: Deep fried Quality Street sweets in batter
Ingredients
12 fridge cold quality street sweets
1 lb /16 oz self raising flour
500ml /15 fl oz fridge cold water aprox
pinch salt
2 teaspoons malt vinegar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
oil for fryer
Method
1-to make batter,sift most of the flour ,baking powder and a pinch of salt into a large bowl and whisk in
cold water to give a thick batter,adding a little more water if batter seems over thick
2-add in vinegar and vanilla essence
3-mixture should have no lumps or bumps and be of a thick consistency
4-heat oil in fryer to 140 degrees
5-drop in a pinch of batter ,if the batter rises,bubbles and browns it is ready
6-using tongs place sweets into small bowl of cold water then into leftover flour ,once coated in flour dip sweets into batter ,covering the whole sweet
7-place into hot oil in fryer and fry for 2-3 minutes until crunchy and golden
8-remove and place on paper towel so excess oil can be soaked up
9-serve with a dusting of icing sugar
